The 10th successor of Tokuro Miyake family, a prominent acting family.
The second daughter of the 19th-generation head master of one of the two traditional schools of Kyogen, the Izumi school, which has 582 year history.
She made her first appearance on the stage at the age of three, and performed the great plays for professional recognition at the ages of 12 and 14.
She is the second woman to perform Kyogen professionally in its 600year history, following her elder sister Junko Izumi. In 1989 she inherited her grandfather’s stage name Tokuro Miyake, also received a letter of appreciation from the Minister of Education. She not only performs on various stage regularly, but also holds educational workshops for students and youth throughout Japan.
Has performed in Asia, Europe and the U.S., more than 14 countries and 30 cities.
In 2012, she was invited from North Dakota State University as an Artist-in-residence to teach Kyogen to American students and directed 7times performances for the English Kyogen project “Wokashi”. Toured in the U.S. as part of a delegation sent by Prime Minister’s office in 2014,2016 and 2018.
Why does she create “English translation Kyogen” and hold workshops in English in and outside of Japan? She has an aim― To make Kyogen a global art.
